Rhode Island Council of Community Mental Health Organizations Recognizes Program

Program of Excellence AwardNRI Community Services, as one of the founding members of The Rhode Island Council of Community Mental Health Organizations, celebrated the Council’s 30th Anniversary on November 19, 2009 at the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet at 60 Rhodes Place, Cranston, RI. This marks 30 years of improving Rhode Island’s mental health system and advocating for a strong behavioral health care system. The Council recognized its 11 member organizations with Programs of Excellence Awards. Chris Stephens, President/CEO accepted the award for NRI Community Services Technical Assistance, Consultation and Training Services (TACTS).

This program has been a 20 year initiative whereby administrative and clinical leadership staff provide consultation and training on a wide range of topics to public schools, trade association, police departments and other nonprofit agencies. The TACTS program has had a far reaching effect in 20 states, promoting supported housing, crisis services, home and community-based care and education and employment services. As a result of this outreach, NRI Community Services has discovered the “best practices” of providers in other states and in sharing that, has been a stimulus for new programs and new relationships between public and nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island. A Woonsocket community partner for 43 years, NRI Community Services offers an array of services from child and family to elder services; from short-term private setting outpatient treatments, to long-term home and community based crisis stabilization and hospital diversion that address the mental health and behavioral health needs of people throughout Rhode Island.
