Goals and Measures

Families seeking access to Children's Intensive Services have children with serious emotional disturbance who are at-risk for out-of-home placement.

Given the distress experienced by families who are seeking our services our goal is to reduce the waiting time between first telephone contact and assessment.

Changes Implemented

  • Expanded the Assessment Team from three staff members to include the entire clinical team (25 staff members)
  • Installed a telephone in Disposition Room so staff are immediately notified of a new case
  • Implemented a waiting time tracking sheet
  • Team Managers used waiting time tracking sheets to follow up on new cases assigned to their teams
  • Trained all clinical staff on the definition of "aggressive outreach"

Impact

The baseline data for waiting time between first contact and assessment improved by 15%. (average for June - August 2005 compared with average for December 2005 - January 2006)

That's a 15% Improvement in waiting time!
